I'm working on new site and the menu I set to Category Blog Layout isn't displaying properly and won't change. It seems to be stuck in the mode of showing 1 leading article followed by the rest of the articles in 2 columns. I want to have all the articles listed in one column, but none of my attempts at changing the menu settings have accomplished anything. It stays the same no matter what I change.

Screenshot attached. Website address is http://www.notforgotteninternational.org.

Any suggestions?
Sincerely,

Hi,

When you have changed the menu settings as you described (and also shown in: <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="www.joomtorial.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f...=10&p=30#p30<!-- l --> ) and the changes are not made. It could be that caching might be on.

When you change menu settings from 2 columns to 1 coumn I cannot see any other reason why it should not show the reason.

So please check the following:

Under the menu: Tools, click on "Clean Cache"

When on the Cache Page, select all items in cache and click on "delete" at the right top. (click on the picture below for an enlargement).

Once you have done that, try and refresh your webpage and see if it is now showing the blog menu correctly.

Let me know how it works out.

I emptied the cache, purged the cache, and before that noticed the caching is not enabled.

I also tried to change to article layout. It still displays with 1 article with 2 columns of many articles below it. Joomla is not listening to me!

What next?

Hi,

It could be template based and the maker of the template used template overrides. Would be a bit weird, but possible. Could you check and see when you switch to a different template if Joomla "listens" to your 1 column setting?

Also check template settings itself. Maybe the template has a separate blog/column setting perhaps?

Let me know the results.

I switched templates and it stayed the same so I'm guessing it's not a template issue.

It must be a menu issue. Have you ever heard of menus getting stuck on one setting?

OK. Check this out.

I just deleted the menu item called Programs.

I copied a menu item called History which is an article layout.

I renamed the duplicate History menu item to be Programs and pointed the article to one of the program articles.

IT STILL DISPLAYS THE OLD WRONG WAY. CRAZY!

Does this give you any ideas of what's happening?

Hi,

Yes it surely does! This to me sounds like old menus in trash. Empty menu-trash and see what happens.

Next to that, I notice you have SEF running. SEF tends to give weird problems at times. When I develop a site, it is always the last thing I turn on. So when setting up the site, I am not dealing with SEF oddities. Of-course when you do it like I do, SEF needs extensive testing before going live with the site.

Making progress!

I deleted the old Programs menu item, created a new item called Projects. That one let me change the layout. Then i changed the name to Programs and it still worked.

So I think a resolution is imminent...just have no idea what was causing the original PROGRAMS menu item to goof up.

Hi,

Making progress is good

I would still advise to turn off SEF for now. I see url's like /program1/etc.html now. I guess that is not desired. Again, especially in development phase, I tend to turn off SEF until the site itself is complete.
