Hi Piet (and other helpers?),

I have downloaded FileZilla and managed to connect to my webspace. Now I have an existing webpage and two subdomains (another webpage and a forum) there. With Joomla, I am planning on making a new webpage, preferably while the old one is still up and running.

I have 2 questions:
- is this possible?
- where do I upload the Joomla files to? (www or elsewhere?)

Thanks in advance for your help.
Marjolijn

Hi,

This is certainly possible.

In your current webspace, create a new folder in the folder www, for example: "joomla". When you start uploading all your joomla files, upload the files in your created "joomla" folder.

Your Joomla installation and website should then be accessible through http://www.yourdomainname.com/joomla , leaving your current pages in-tact.

So in graphic representation, your hierarchy should look something like this: (click on the picture below for a larger view)

Got the files uploaded. Thanks. Am having trouble connecting to the database now. I get following message:

Access denied for user 'username'@'localhost' to database 'joomla' SQL=CREATE DATABASE `joomla` CHARACTER SET `utf8`
