Hey Piet,

I'm looking for a portfolio solution to display my website portfolio at http://www.ivmwebsolutions.com. I've installed Portfolio Design, but it has some glitches preventing the images from displaying.

Before digging too deeply into that one component, I created a temporary (but fine looking) portfolio utilizing articles and a right-side menu for the time being.

So my question is...

What is the best solution (component, plugin, work-around, etc.) to create a professional looking portfolio?

Hi Rob,

I too have been looking for a long long time for a decent portfolio component/extension. I must admit, up until now, I haven't found any that i find good enough.

They all have downsides for me. Some have too much information fields, where I just want to show a picture and title. Others don't show the pictures in a way I want.

Basically I think still the best way is a category blog and show a thumbnail and enlargement and next to it the information you want to show.

I think I previously gave you this link: http://www.joomladsign.com/joomla-websites/

A category blog showing all items in alphabetic order. A few tweaks here and there for showing the info I want to show and an implementation of the HighSlide images. (http://highslide.com/) I just love HighSlide

In short, I chose a work-around in stead of a component/extension. There might be some good portfolio extensions available, I just haven't found the one that worked for me.

Looking at the Portfolio you have running now. (http://www.ivmwebsolutions.com/portfolio.html) I must say, I think it is gorgeous. Information of the website is available. Great looking screenshots/previews of what you made. And next to that, a good overview (right side) of all that is available.

I would stop looking for an extension and maintain this one. I like it a lot!

Sometimes an extensions makes us think we can nicely automate some tedious tasks, but a Portfolio will never be easy and will always mean working at it. There is no automation in maintaining your Portfolio

I like that HighSlides thing! Maybe for another project.

Thank you for the encouraging words about my current gallery. I think I will keep it like it is and save my energy for a client.
